Indoor multipath effect study on the Locata system

GNSS has become one of the most wide- spread measurement technologies, allowing cm-level positioning accuracy using RTK or Network RTK. Unfortunately, the system’s major drawbacks are the requirement for a clear view of the sky and accu- racy dependent on the geometric distribution of the satellites, not only varying throughout the day but also prone to location specific problems. With wide- spread utilisation of GNSS for monitoring of man- made structures and other civil engineering tasks, such shortcomings can be critical. One of possible solution is the deployment of a sup- porting system, such as Locata – a terrestrial posi- tioning technology, which mitigates the need for a clear view of the sky and provides system integrity control. This paper, part of the proposed integration feasibil- ity study, presents Locata performance indoors, its capacity and mitigation methods

Satellite mapping in cities and below cities: how good is it now?

Global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) have existed since the launch of the US global positioning system constellation in 1978. There is an increasing need for better maps in the digital age, particularly for buried utilities. One of the most convenient methods for creating accurate maps is the use of navigation satellites for positioning. However, built-up urban areas are not ideal for the use of this positioning technology. This paper provides an update on the situation regarding GNSS and assesses how new satellites and signals are contributing to better positioning availability by carrying out a test in a controlled environment. The results show that using combined satellite systems improves availability in urban canyons in some cases, but not in all scenarios. In addition, pipeline mapping technology has been tested and been shown to be an effective means of mapping pipes deep under the ground over short distances

Outlining a new collaborative business model as a result of the green Building Information Modelling impact in the AEC supply chain

    Get PDF
BIM (Building Information Modelling) technological push has enabled to integrate the design/construction outcomes of 3D-CAD along the product/service AEC (Architecture, Engineering and Construction) SC (supply chain) through an intelligent DMS (Data Management System) based on standard and interoperable data formats. The proposed end-to-end approach overcomes a typical AEC gap, enables the operationalisation of the sustainable/green building LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) and puts together new collaborative relationships with the owner, among SC stakeholders and with new forms of BIM procurement. The outlined collaborative business model is based on the Quality Control and Assurance framework and provides conceptual consistency to the reintroduction of the owner concerns/satisfaction in the SC, as well as enables consistent and accountable relationships between (smart)materials procurement and building specification. An expert’s focus group carried out a preliminary check of the model’s interest/applicability, resulting in recommendations for its further detailing and for propositions development into a systematic enquiring process.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio

This article presents the original Arts-Based Research method which could give competitive advantage on the market owing to the identification of future developmental trends in housing architecture. Superiority within the scope of predicting future trends is a significant element of competitiveness in contemporary architecture – it not only concerns architectural design but also numerous branches of industry: the producers of building materials, interior design, furniture etc. The presented method is the result of scientific and research work done at the Faculty of Architecture, Poznan University of Technology. Its originality consists in the use of artistic actions as a heuristic operator in forecasting related to housing architecture
